# Animals in the Workplace/Service Animals

No animals of any kind are permitted in staff accommodation trailers, inside the museum building, or anywhere on TMDC property, with the sole exception of service animals as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

A "service animal" under the ADA means a dog - or, in limited circumstances, a miniature horse - that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability. Emotional support animals, therapy animals, comfort animals, and pets do not qualify as ADA service animals under this policy and are not permitted on TMDC property. The ADA does not require service animals to be certified, registered, or to wear identifying gear. TMDC will not require documentation or proof of certification.

Any employee seeking to bring a service animal onto TMDC property must notify their supervisor in advance. TMDC may make the two permissible ADA inquiries:

1. whether the animal is required because of a disability, and
2. what work or task the animal has been trained to perform.

Violation of this policy is grounds for disciplinary action up to and including termination, and may also result in immediate revocation of any staff accommodation license.
